Parks and Recreation
The Leadville area boasts a plethora of recreational opportunities. The Lake County Recreation Department operates several facilities including: Huck Finn Skate Park & Ice Rink, Leiter Ball Fields, Playgrounds, Aquatic Center, Dutch Henry Sledding Hill, and offers dozens of programs year round. The Mineral Belt Trail is a FREE, non-motorized trail offering year round biking, snowshoeing, & Nordic skiing.
There’s no shortage of Alpine skiing. Leadville is centrally located amongst Colorado’s premier ski resorts and we are very proud of Cooper Hill our local ski area founded in 1942 as a training site for nearby Camp Hale. Today it is an amazing, affordable, asset complete with brand new terrain in 2019, snow cat tours, evening mountaintop yurt dinners, national & international ski/boardercross training and competition, and the ease of family skiing without the annoying lines our neighbors deal with. It’s truly a gem just minutes from Leadville and the I-70 corridor.
Don’t forget Mt. Massive Golf Course, the nation’s highest golf course. The course is available during Summer and Fall and offers Nordic skiing trails in the Winter. Finally, Leadville and Twin Lakes are centrally located and make the perfect launch points for all that our National Forest and other public lands have to offer. Fishing, Biking, Boating, Camping, Hiking, are some of the many pastimes that residents and visitors enjoy year round. Two of Colorado’s highest 14ers (mountains over 14,000ft in elevation) are located in Lake County.
